Charles Square 4 / Hoxton, London

A Georgian building redesigned by our design studio to house 5 apartments that seamlessly blend heritage and modernity for a contemporary lifestyle.

Positioned within the uppermost level of this reimagined Georgian townhouse, Flat 4 combines architectural drama with considered detailing, offering a distinctive living space shaped equally by heritage and modern design. Set on the top floor of Charles Square, this apartment is a compact yet characterful space of approximately 46.5 sq m, defined by its striking double-height ceilings and exposed original beams.

The space is organised around an open-plan living, kitchen, and dining area, where the vertical volume enhances both light and a sense of openness. A fireplace anchors the room, adding warmth and a focal point within the historic envelope. The modern kitchen by Rotpunkt is seamlessly integrated, offering a clean, contemporary counterpoint to the building’s original fabric. A separate bedroom and bathroom are accessed via the hallway, creating a well-balanced layout that maximises both privacy and flow.

The building itself, dating back to the 1720s, has transitioned through multiple identities, from residence to courthouse and political headquarters, before its careful transformation into five apartments by Marta Nowicka. The renovation preserves key Georgian elements while introducing a considered modern material palette, resulting in a home that is both rooted in history and designed for contemporary living.
