London becomes magical around this time of year; the city twinkles under the Christmas lights and offers an array of festive celebrations. However, with so many options it’s hard to know the best ones. If you want to experience something truly unique, we’ve prepared a guide to uncover some of the city’s hidden gems. These are our favorite activities for Christmas in London!

1. Christmas Shopping Extravaganza

Just a short walk away from The Warehouse and The Duplex, the Columbia Road Flower Market is a must-visit for those seeking one-of-a-kind presents. Don’t be fooled by the name; this eclectic spot boasts not only beautiful flowers and plants but also a treasure trove of vintage goods, antiques, and artisanal beauties, such as jewelry and perfumes, which make excellent gifts. For a lavish experience, our favorite spot would be the iconic Liberty with its extravagant decorations. Immerse yourself in a Christmas fantasy in their gorgeous Tudor revival with curated collections of luxury goods, dazzling sets, and exclusive festivities that surprise us every year. (haven’t added Selfridges yet because it’s actually via Oxford Street and a bit too popular?)

Amidst the Christmas decorations, Covent Garden transforms into Santa’s workshop with quaint boutiques and artisanal stores offering fabulous options that will charm your loved ones. If you get tired from all that shopping, you can always make a stop at the Seven Dials Market for some elevated street food and quirky cocktails or the Covent Garden Hotel for a glass of celebratory champagne - guaranteed to get you in the holiday spirit!

2. A Very Merry Feast

After a day of shopping, indulge in the gastronomic pleasures of London’s culinary scene. St. John, known for its nose-to-tail dining concept, offers a three-course Christmas Menu for bookings of 8 or more in classic feasting style on sharing platters. Enjoy their renowned roast meats and delectable seasonal desserts or order A la Carte according to your preference. Alternatively, Moro offers a tantalizing fusion of Spanish and Moorish cuisines, and their Christmas set menu for groups of 8 or more, features vibrant flavors and festive specialties that reflect the diverse culinary heritage of the region.

3. Pub Crawl Through History

If champagne is not your style, perhaps you'd enjoy a merry pub crawl through some of the city’s most historic and atmospheric hidden gems. Tucked away underground for 130 years, Gordon’s Wine Bar exudes an old-world charm and boasts an extensive wine list perfect for sipping by romantic candlelight. Built in 1875 on the site of a monastery, The Blackfriar is an Art Nouveau Grade II masterpiece with a large personality and rich history, yet somehow manages to offer a cozy setting with its traditional ales and hearty pub fare. Cap off the evening at The Holy Tavern, located within the grounds of one of London’s most ancient hostelries -The Clerkenwell Priory. This hidden gem is known for its festive ambiance and selection of craft beers, providing a perfect end to your pub-hopping adventure.

4. Artisanal Delights

Borough Market is a haven for food enthusiasts, especially during the Christmas season. Whether it's sourcing the freshest ingredients or exploring new flavors to add a twist to your Christmas table, this bustling market offers a culinary adventure. From delectable cheeses to specialty meats or organic produce, Borough Market provides an array of high-quality ingredients that will elevate your festive feast. Consider alternative gift ideas like handpainted jars with aromatic spices, or boxes of handcrafted chocolates that you can always store for your your next dinner party.

5. Glide on Ice

Nestled amidst the skyscrapers of the City, the Broadgate Arena offers a quintessential winter experience in the most scenic way possible. Skating under the twinkling lights with the cityscape as a backdrop creates a magical atmosphere straight out of a movie. It’s usually less busy than other popular ice skating rinks and it’s just a few minutes walk from The Warehouse and The Duplex. If you don’t want to get on the ice, you can always enjoy a hot cocoa or mulled wine from the nearby stalls for a truly festive treat.

6. Silent Night, Starry Night

Many of London’s parks become a winter wonderland during the festive season with light installations and festivals that dazzle kids and grown-ups alike. Our favorite one might be the lovely Hampstead Heath. You can explore the magical trails adorned with fairy lights and colorful lanterns, creating a whimsical setting perfect for an evening stroll for families, couples, and friends alike. Nearby Kenwood House looks stunning with its illuminated façade and there’s even a fire garden with festive food and drinks to keep you entertained throughout the night. It doesn’t get more festive than that!

7. Christmas Carols at St Pauls

Last but certainly not least, is a visit to the magnificent St Paul’s Cathedral for one of the services or concerts taking place during Advent and Christmas. We love their inclusivity and in their words “Whoever you are, and whatever you believe, you are welcome to come to St Paul’s”. Immerse yourself in the holiday spirit with enchanting carol concerts in its majestic halls, featuring angelic voices harmonizing in timeless melodies. The awe-inspiring architecture and the resonance of the choir create an ambiance that captures the true essence of the season. Make sure to check for tickets on their website.
