Arrival at Coastguard’s Cottage begins in the garden, where weathered timber, shingle and coastal planting create a seamless transition between the property and the surrounding landscape. Designed to embrace the elements throughout the year, the outdoor space includes a BBQ, a large dining table beneath a timber canopy for long summer lunches, loungers among wildflowers, and even a firepit for cooler evenings. From here, the sound of the beach beyond the fence serves as a constant reminder of the cottage’s unique relationship to the sea.

Entering through the floor-to-ceiling glass door, you arrive in a light-filled kitchen where a long, stainless-steel worktop reflects the ever-changing light from the skylight above. A horizontal picture window frames uninterrupted views towards the horizon, while a wood burner and a beautifully worn medieval table with enough seating for large groups bring warmth and character to the space. Adjacent reading and living rooms provide inviting places to gather, each centred around fireplaces and framed by views across the sea and surrounding landscape. Original features have been carefully revealed throughout the house, from restored staircases to exposed brickwork that speaks of the building’s past.

Upstairs, the master bedroom enjoys far-reaching views across the Lydd Ranges towards Dungeness, while the bathroom offers views of the Rye Bay.
